In the first act of every horror movie, there’s always a dog who knows better; he refuses to go into the haunted house, senses evil forces in the woods, and usually winds up in pieces in front of his family.
This is that dog’s story – a grounded, paranormal thriller with the world’s most relatable unknown actor as the star. No talking pets, just terrifying scares.
Good Boys is in preproduction now. Stay tuned for more details.
Do you ever wonder why your dog is barking at an empty chair, or won’t go into certain parts of the house? “Good Boy” started with a simple high concept: a haunted house story, where the main character is the family dog, and also the only one who can see the ghosts.
“Good Boy” tells a story about an outsider (a rescue dog and victim of abuse) who must overcome his tragic history, push through his personal limitations, and rekindle something that’s sometimes easy to lose: our faith in our fellow man. This isn’t Air Bud or Lassie – where the dogs are all happy-go-lucky, and are clearly acting for food. Our canine hero behaves and acts realistically. He’s not imbued with a voice nor directed by abstract reasoning, but by instinct, sensation, and simple reasoning.
Dog-movies can connect with audiences at a visceral level. Our relationship to man’s best friend is one that we hope to tap into to create an instant bond between our hero and the audience. A dog’s innate curiosity is the perfect way to ratchet tension. Dog’s are naturally protective. They’re our first line of defense against intruders and unseen dangers. So too, we will use this unique perspective to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
